Japanese NTT will start a trial run on a IP-based NGN (Next-Generation Network) in late 2006, with commercialization slated for 2007. The test, to be implemented by NTT's regional carriers NTT West and NTT East, will be carried out in Tokyo and Osaka starting in December 2006. NTT plans to announce information related to the terminals and applications for this test in July 2006, hoping to stimulate consumer electronics makers, video and other communications service providers to develop NGN-compatible gear and to encourage them to participate in the tests.
